Saturday - Parenting 101

I guess there are pros and cons to everything.  This week we are trying to figure out how they relate to my previous post about having a household full of sick kids.  Never fun but always a learning experience.  I will admit that we are lucky and all the girls got sick at once.  This way we should be able to nip it in the butt rather than have it linger for weeks (fingers crossed).  So, pros/cons of having a house full of sick girlies:

Cons: everyone is cranky; dirty tissues are everywhere; the house reeks of Lysol; teaching a two year old to blow is tiring; no one sleeps at night - just random times during the day; as temperatures rise, your fears do too; I need high energy to counteract their low energy; fights break out every two minutes and end in tears (even over who sits where on the couch); when one calls you, another needs you at the same time; creative cooking becomes a top priority; even though they can watch all the tv they want - they can't agree on a show; someone always spits out the medicine; ear infections hurt way more at night and you don't know until they are in bed; there is a ton of laundry; hacking coughs that rip fear through your body; it is hard to hold three kids at once; at times no one wants mommy, just daddy...and he is not home.

Pros: they are all sick at once so the germs head out faster; it is a 3-day pajama party; there are tons of snuggles to go around; getting to hold you child in your arms like when they were babies; only you can make them better (no drug or other person can); no one has to be quarantined - they can all play together; popsicles are a "free" food and you can eat as many as you want; mom will bake you cookies or anything that will make you feel better (pumpkin bread yesterday); reminds you that no matter how tough or rotten they can seem at times - these little people are the most amazing and precious things in the world and you would do anything to make them safe :)

So, that's my short list of pros/cons...its been quite a ride but I think we are on our way out of the woods.  This weekend should give them all some time to get healthy and get out in the fresh, cold, cold air.  Oh, one other thing on the con list should have been to taking a child's temperature.  We use an ear thermometer which always confuses me because I am never quite sure where their temperature should be or if I jammed the damn thing in far enough!  So, I am heading out today to get a scan thermometer to ease my mind.  They have great reviews and there is no poking involved ;)
